Substitution Request Generator

Catalog lookup in.
Full substitution request out.

Manufacturer reps spend hours drafting individual product substitution requests — cross-referencing catalogs, matching specs, writing the justification prose. This tool automates the full pipeline. Extract the original specification, match against the manufacturer's catalog, draft the request ready to send.

Hours of catalog gymnastics, every single request.

A project specifies a competitor's product. Your team wants to propose an equivalent substitution. What should be a ten-minute decision turns into three hours of pulling datasheets, cross-referencing SKUs, matching performance characteristics line by line, and writing a justification the architect will actually approve.

The tool reads the spec, matches every specified product against your catalog, assembles a side-by-side comparison of the performance properties that matter, and drafts the full substitution request — compliance statements, rationale, certification block — ready for you to review and send. Hours to minutes.

What's inside.

Built around the substitution workflow, not around an abstract AI demo.

01

Spec extraction

Drop in the project specification PDF and the tool pulls every specified product, its required performance properties, and the governing standards (ASTM, UL, FM, etc.) that must be met.

02

Catalog matching

Every specified product gets matched against your manufacturer catalog with a confidence rating. When the match is borderline the tool flags it — you override any recommendation with one click.

03

Property-by-property comparison

Side-by-side table of the numerical performance properties the spec calls for and the values your product delivers. No narrative hand-waving — the evidence architects actually approve.

04

AI query bar

Ask natural-language questions about the spec or the matches before you send. "What are the compliance risks?" "Which match is weakest and why?" Claude Haiku, fast answers.

05

Saved drafts

Start a substitution request, get pulled into a site visit, come back tomorrow. Saved Drafts captures project fields, matches, and the live preview — resume exactly where you left off.

06

Brand-neutral output

The generated substitution request reads as a clinical, vendor-agnostic technical document. No 007 Technologies branding, no accent colors that clash with your corporate letterhead. Export and send.

How it works.

Four steps, around three minutes end-to-end on a typical roofing or building-envelope spec.

01

Upload the specification

Drag the project specification PDF into the app. The tool extracts the roofing or envelope content and identifies every specified product, its required properties, and the cited standards.

02

Review the matches

Every specified product gets matched against your catalog. Confidence ratings flag borderline matches for your attention. Override any recommendation by picking from the full catalog in one click.

03

Fill in project info and generate

Project name, spec section, architect, submitter. Hit Generate. The tool assembles a full substitution request — property-by-property comparison table, compliance statements, rationale, certification block. Every field in the preview is editable.

04

Export or email

Export as PDF, or open your mail client with the message pre-filled. The output is brand-neutral — reads as a professional technical document regardless of your company's colors.

Questions we get.

Does it work with our product catalog specifically?

Yes — the tool is tuned to your specific catalog, not a generic database. During onboarding we load your product data (from CSV, JSON, or a live feed) along with the performance properties that matter for your category. The matcher learns your product taxonomy, not a guess at it.

How good are the matches, really?

Every match comes with a confidence rating — high, medium, low. High-confidence matches are almost always correct for common spec patterns. Medium and low get flagged for your review, and you override any match by picking from your full catalog in one click. The tool drafts; you approve.

What about specs our product genuinely doesn't meet?

The property-by-property table flags exactly that. When a required property exceeds your product's rated value, the row is marked non-compliant. You see it; the architect sees it when you send the request. The tool tells the truth.

Does the output have 007 Technologies branding?

No. The generated substitution request reads as a vendor-neutral technical document. Your logo, your letterhead, your colors — we stay out of the way.
